Hello! My name is Grace and I am autistic. I started this blog because I felt like I could never find myself truly represented.
Everyone’s experiences of autism is so different. I want to put my experiences and view out there; in the hope that they reach even one person who can see parts of themselves, or someone they know, in me.
My first piece of writing was entitled ‘I am autistic: my experience of school with undiagnosed ASD.’ What had originally started as a piece of english coursework, soon became something I could share with others as an insight into my life. It was a piece of work I was very proud of, and family, friends, and teachers seemed to find it helpful.
From this, my ‘I am autistic’ graphic was formed. It continues to be shared among schools, and families of autistic young people. I can tell how much people likes it, and I got a lot of positive feedback about my ‘different perspective.’
With this blog, I want to focus on this different perspective. Seeing autism through the eyes – not of the expert, teacher or parent – but of the autistic young person.
I hope you enjoy my writing and find it interesting, and possible beneficial.
